I have a question. Chloe has been a little oinker the last couple days and I can't keep up. The other day she was eating 4oz every 4 hours. Now she's eating between 8-11oz every 2-4 hours (can we say growth spurt!) but I'm finding it hard to keep up with her. :(

What is the earliest you can give a baby rice cereal? or would it be better to start supplementing some formula?

My parents said they started giving us rice cereal at 2 weeks and we're just fine, but I want to know your thoughts on the matter.

These days they really don't recommend food, even rice cereal, before 6 months. She is probably going through a growth spurt, and it will all even out. Are you still pumping? Unfortunately our bodies don't produce enough milk when solely pumping, usually. I would say to supplement with formula when needed and eventually you can taper off if it is indeed a growth spurt.

I know a lot of research in regards to starting foods earlier points to more digestive issues and allergies. We waited to give Ky her first rice cereal until she was about almost 6 months and she has had NO issues with allergies or tummy probs. from food.

I know some parents start their kiddos earlier, but I would for sure talk to to your ped. before giving rice cereal :) GL!

keep putting her on your boob. even if she is on it all day. it is prob a growth spurt and its her way]] of also geting your milk up so it can keep up with her. sadly if y]ou really want to keep up on breastfeeding its best to NOT give any supplments. she wont starve. even if your boobs feel empty if she is not screaming she is getting something. keep with it. only doing boob and it will pay off and it only last a few days.

if you cant handle it. give a bit of formula, i would not suggest rice. they get used to it being in a bottle and want it all the time and that can lead to over weight.

im here for support!

this won't last so dont' fret too much. Of course it'll happen again @ intervals but it's quick I promise! If you can maybe try to increase either your pumping time or frequency...you're supply WILL increase. And def. put her to your breast as often as you can, cluster feeding when possible.

How in the world is this little girl already nearly a month old??????????!!!!!

I gave Layla and Carl cereal both when they were 2 weeks old. They both weren't satisfied no matter what I did.

At 4 weeks I had to give Moose rice cereal in his bottles due to acid reflux and it caused some serious stomach aches. He went back on it fine at 3 mos and ate like a champ! My Chloe started at 5 weeks and loved it. All babies are differemt. But I do agree with the ladies that 3 weeks is way too soon... 5 weeks was probably too soon for my Chloe too.. shrugs. A growth spurt will pass and leave you with a bit more milk.. 4 oz every 4 hrs is great!!! Moose always ate 4-6 oz every 3 hrs...

She should do this again at 6 weeks too.. so be ready!

Id try to pump less and if possible let her feed from your boob she will work harder and maybe not eat so much...but like briggette said it shouldn't last long but will happen again so don't stress...but I personally wouldn't do cereal now I think she still to young but of course its whatever you are comfortable...tell her to stop getting bigger plz she can't turn a month already :-)

If you feel like she needs more, I'd try formula before the cereal. That is just my opinion though. Good luck! Growth spurts take a lot out of you.

The growth spurts only last a few days so she should be almost done nursing like crazy...then she will be very sleepy for the next few days after that so don't be surprised.

I would hang in there and just nurse her as she demands it. Your body will accomodate her needs. Are you pumping/bottle feeding or nursing directly? Just wondering how you know how much you are giving her.

I would stay away from rice cereal this young. They simply just don't need it at this age. I never started until around 4 months at the earliest with all 3 and even then I didn't give too much.

Important Cloth Diaper Basics
hanks to the recent "green" way of thinking, people are starting to look more seriously into alternatives to disposable diapers. Cloth diapers have come a long way over the past decade and are nothing like the cloth diapers of the past.

Returning To Work Post Pregnancy
Some women are lucky to have lots of time off after having a baby, while others need to go back to work as soon as possible. No matter how long a maternity leave you may have had to spend with your baby, going back to work can be a hard transition...one that you are not looking forward to making.

Great Breastfeeding Tips
Although breastfeeding is a wonderful experience for you and your baby, it is not one that comes without hardships. Breastfeeding at first, can be very difficult and hard to commit to. It doesn't have to be this way though.
