OMG!!!! I have never broken any bones, so I have no idea whether or not my ankle is broken...
we have a gate set up at the bottom of the stairs, so Kaylin can't climb up them. Next to the gate is a foot stool, well I always step on the stool and then on the ground... Ironic part of this story early tonight brandon told kaylin that mommy was going to hurt herself doing this... I got her in bed, and went up to get us some milk, coming down I stepped onto the foot stool when I stepped off I only had my left foot going down and it went down completely on the outside of my ankle... I heard a few cracks and some pops, and I somehow kept both glasses up right immediately feel to the floor and cried "I think I just broke my ankle".... My foot started to swell, 2 veins were POPPING out of my ankle, and my toes turned purple... So ice went on, and I propped my foot up and took an anti inflamatory... it's barely swollen now, and no purple toes..The veins are still out there...
I can wiggle my toes, even though they are completely numb... And I can move my foot... So I'm assuming I either tore a tendon or some crap like that, or I sprained my ankle.... I guess we'll find out tomorrow!
I did something similar when i was 16 but i am always rolling my ankles. When this happened to me it was a severe sprain and i had to where a brace for about 2 or 3 weeks and keep icing it. Doctor said I would have been better off to break it.
Make sure you keep icing it often and try and stay off of it. Instant swelling and bruising usually points to either a sprain or a fracture. You will probably want to get an x-ray. Also keep it elevated and try and sleep with it up on a pillow. Ibprofen is good for pain and swelling (or anyother NSAID). You could also try an ace bandage for compression. You want to start wrapping at the bottom of your foot and work your way up so you are "pushing" the swelling up towards your knee. Becareful not to do it to tight though, if your toes are numb or it hurts then its to tight. Good luck!
When your doctor tells you to take time off of it DO IT. They missed a fracture in my mom's ankle two years ago, and they told her it was a sprain. The doctor said to take two weeks off of work, but of course, my mother the work horse, being that it was "only" a sprain, didn't take the time off. She's still paying for it with weekly visits to a specialist, frequent bone scans, and a major limp unless she takes pain killers because the fracture healed incorrectly because she didn't stay off of it. My mom is a farmer, so this is especially no good for her. They say the only way the pain will stop for good is if they drill rods into it, which would give her a permanent limp as it would make her ankle immobile. No movement whatsoever.
That sucks!!! How ironic that your husband told your daughter you were going to hurt yourself- that sounds EXACTLY like what my husband says to Emri and then for some reason it happens! He jinxed you! I rolled my foot over once while I was dancing (yes there was some alcohol involved) and I said to my friend right after, "I think I broke my foot." She said, "No you didn't." So I kept on dancing. I guess the alcohol helped to numb the pain cause I ended up in a cast for 6 weeks! It would have been longer, but I begged the dr to take it off early so I wouldn't have to wear a giant blue fiberglass cast to my grade 12 grad.
Hopefully you didn't break it, Kaylin will be pretty hard to chase around! Take care of yourself and rest (and milk it for everything it is worth) have your hubby bring you drinks and tylenol!!!
Important Cloth Diaper Basics
hanks to the recent "green" way of thinking, people are starting to look more seriously into alternatives to disposable diapers. Cloth diapers have come a long way over the past decade and are nothing like the cloth diapers of the past.
Returning To Work Post Pregnancy
Some women are lucky to have lots of time off after having a baby, while others need to go back to work as soon as possible. No matter how long a maternity leave you may have had to spend with your baby, going back to work can be a hard transition...one that you are not looking forward to making.
Great Breastfeeding Tips
Although breastfeeding is a wonderful experience for you and your baby, it is not one that comes without hardships. Breastfeeding at first, can be very difficult and hard to commit to. It doesn't have to be this way though.
