My husband is an EMT and he through work just got it with all the ppl in this house i just think it will be better Ryan suffered last yr with brochiiolits for almost 3 months Eddie goes on the neb everytime he starts to cough it goes to a wheeze jess has allergies Wil still needs his tonsls out and Allys fevers go through the roof
so id rather keep them from getting it if i can one less month of what illness could rip through this house I cant seem to find the flu shot for myself the minute clinic i go to said maybe mid week next week. So Im glad at least the kids will be covered tissues stocked tylenol, bleach check, lysol can in hand i think im ready

thats great that you made up your mind about what to do!
Please update us on how the shots are given and after effects etc... I am especially curious about the whole process with little kids as I am on the fence still and thinking of getting the two little ones done since Moose has the fever/seizure issue. |

| Bill had his today he ended up getting the nasal spray which is an live version of the virus but the kids will get the shot I read that under 9 just like the regular flu shot when its their first will have to have a booster in 4 weeks or anytime after 21 day from the time they have the first one. Bill's working a 12 hr shift tonight :( I've had 3 freinds in the ER with their little ones in the last 4hrs!!!! They are saying the main problem with the H1N1 is that no one has been exposed to it before so their is no natural immunity to it. The E.R's are swamped all the local Dr's are telling parents not to bring their children into the office if they have flu symptons. Just want to put a bubble around everyone this winter :( |

So back in August when the kids got their flu mist, I asked why they got the mist and not the shot. The nurse said that the mist is different b/c its the live virus and its given to kids without illnesses like asthma ect. The shot is the dead virus given to kids who have chronic illnesses.
I haven't been on the fence regarding the H1N1, I have wanted to get the kids vaccinated. I just ran into the problem of finding it. Luckily every school district here in Phoenix was given vaccines for each student, free regardless of insurance. So the older boys will get their shots on Friday. Justin however is on a waiting list at his peds. office and will get it when its his turn on the list. I can't for the life of me find somewhere to get the H1N1 for me. I had the regular shot so at least I am covered that way.
I am concerned for John tho, he is in contact for 10+ hours a day for 4-5 days a week with all those nasties on the streets and I am worried he will get it. He's been battling a cold for 2 weeks now, he doesn't need to get worse! |

| The police dept should cover John's shot...they should get all officers shots to be truthful! Mike's work is giving it to them for free. |

Eva and I have gotten the H1N1 vaccine. We got the shot because my OB didn't want her to get the mist w/ me being pregnant.
We haven't had any side effects. 2 of Eva's friends - same age - have gotten the vaccine and they didn't have any side effects either.
My pedictician (sp) wanted Eva to get the vaccine since we're going to have a newborn in the house during flu season. Eva is in preschool, and I didn't want her bringing it home to the baby. There have already been cases of it at her school. Luckily she is a very healthy little girl, and has hardly been sick at all. We also have gotten the regular flu shot a couple of months ago. |

I've still chosen not to get the shot for anyone in the house but I think it's mandatory for hubby since he's military and getting deployed soon. :-/ Here on base there are plenty of the vaccines to go around, I just don't want it. Every time we go to the hospital for ANYTHING they ask us if we want it, still I say no. I just can't do it, there were too many bad side effects for everyone else in my family that I'm too nervous to get this shot. Maybe once it's out long enough I'll allow the kids to get it, but right now I'm saying no. If Liam or Marshall gets sick I'll take him to the doctor ASAP because I know the symptoms are very similar to those of cold/flu. |

I want to get the shot for Aiden, but his pediatrician's office doesn't have any available yet. We have to go to the public health dept. He goes in for his booster for the regular flu next week and maybe they'll have it then. Otherwise, I will be scheduling an appt. with the health dept since he's in daycare.
Kathleen, could you go to your health dept. and get the shot for you and John? I would think that you would both be in the higher risk category?? |

| So we went and this is how it worked fyi Eddie had to have the shot which was not fun but he is now done full dose in his injection he had to have the shot due to his hystory of using the nebulizer. Wil got the nasal which is a weakened live version of the virus and does not thimersosal or any other preservative it is not recommended for pregnant women or anyone under 2.Ryan had the half dose by injection and needs to go back in a month for the second dose some of the injectable versions do have thermisol however the one he had did not Sooooo now we wait if anyone has any reactions I'll let you all know fingers crossed they will not Ryans napping on my lap now :) he was the best outta the 3 boys i have print outs from the cdc on both versions so if anyone has any questions id be happy to share any info i have :0) |
