Your Baby Development: 25 Weeks Old

How big is your baby?
This week your baby will be weighing around 15 3/4 pounds and measuring 26 1/4 inches if he/she was of average size at birth.

Although your baby's eyesight is already fairly well developed by now, he/she will continue to perfect his/her visual abilities for a long time. At this stage his/her vision is about 20/50, and what he/she sees are only mildly fuzzy, and he/she can see patterns and faces can be seen fairly well, and colors can be easily distinguished.

Now that baby can move about a little more, he/she will probably roll from front to back, and back to front. He/She may propel him/herself all around the room in this manner, although he/she isn't crawling yet, he/she can raise him/herself into a crawling position. Although he/she can site quite well, he/she may need some help getting into this position.

Your baby is beginning to really use his/her hands a lot. He>she can clap, manipulate objects more easily. He/She will grab anything within reach, including his/her body parts and yours!

Your baby will be attempting new skills, and be working on his/her large motor skills, the arms and legs. He/She will also be developing fine motor skills, which is the use of the hands. It is often a good idea to give an initial helping hand, to help him/her get started, and then back off. Let your baby make mistakes, as he/she will earn from these mistakes.

He/She may get a few bruises along the way, but letting him/her fall helps him/her to learn and to experiment. Give him/her the freedom top explore his/her environment freely and independently.

Feeding Baby | What is Baby eating?

Here are some suggested foods which you can introduce to baby at this stage:

  • Bread or toast, unbuttered, half a slice
  • Crackers
  • Fruit, 2-3 tablespoons per serving, with 2 servings per day
  • Fruit juice, diluted with equal amount of water
  • Vegetables, 2-3 tablespoons per serving, with 2 servings per day

Adding Fruits and Vegetables to Baby's Diet
After having been eating cereal, your baby may need to get used to eating fruits and vegetables. Even strained food can have a strong taste after the bland cereal. Begin by buying strained vegetables and fruits, and introducing baby to one new flavor per week.

By doing this it is easier to tell how baby reacts to the new foods, and it makes spotting an allergic reaction easier. It may also be easier to offer baby fruits before vegetables, although vegetables offer more nutrition, fruits will be easier for baby to have has they will taste better.

Juice Choices
When selecting juice for baby, always buy vitamin C fortified apple, pear or grape juice. Avoid orange juice or grapefruit juice for now, as they are too acidic for now. As mentioned before, always dilute the fruit juice with an equal amount of water.

Baby Care

Allergic Reaction To Medication
An allergic reaction to medication, also called a drug allergy or drug hypersensitivity, can occur anytime following administration of the drug. Symptoms that your baby is experiencing an allergic reaction to medication include:

  • Itching
  • Red or flushed skin
  • Rash
  • Hives
  • Restlessness or anxiety
  • Fever
  • Lethargy or hyperactivity

Nausea and vomiting following medication dosage is not usually due to an allergy, however, if you do observe this reaction, contact your doctor.

If your baby is experiencing a reaction to any medication, such as the ones mentioned above you should call your doctor as soon as possible.

Toys and Play

Your baby enjoys looking at her world from a different perspective, such as upside down. To give him/her practice in looking at things from a different angle, turn a toy upside down in front of him/her. See if he/she turns it right way up, and if he/she cant, then show him/her how to do it.

Quick Tips For This Week
By this time baby is close to sleeping 11 hours at night, and day time naps total about 3 1/2 hours during the day.

Returning To Work Post Pregnancy
Some women are lucky to have lots of time off after having a baby, while others need to go back to work as soon as possible. No matter how long a maternity leave you may have had to spend with your baby, going back to work can be a hard transition...one that you are not looking forward to making.

Great Breastfeeding Tips
