Surviving The Dreaded Morning Sickness

Morning Sickness and Nausea

Morning sickness is one of the more unpleasant pregnancy symptoms which you may experience during your pregnancy. In fact morning sickness affects nearly 70% of all pregnant women around the world!

Contrary to what many people believe, this symptom doesn't only occur in the morning. It may occur at any time of the day, morning, noon or night but is usually at it's worst during the morning and improves as the day progresses. One good thing about morning sickness is that it doesn't last all that long, and usually begins to ease off from about week 8, and is usually completely gone by week 13.

Dealing with Morning Sickness

Unfortunately there is no complete method to treat morning sickness, although there are pills to try and help relieve some of the symptoms. The pill in question is known as Bendectin, which was in fact removed from the market in the 1980's because some claimed it caused birth defects. However, recent studies have shown that this is not true and thus have proved that it is safe to use during pregnancy. Bendectin is a prescription drug so you need to speak to your healthcare provider about using it.

Other methods which may help ease the feeling of morning sickness include:

acupressure
acupuncture
massage
acupressure wristbands, which are also worn for motion sickness, do help some women feel better.

Perhaps though the best method in fighting morning sickness is to eat smaller meals more often. You should eat what appeals to you, as with every pregnancy, some foods which make some women feel sick may not have the same affect on other women.

However, most women find that protein foods settle more easily in their stomachs. These food types include:

Cheese
Eggs
Peanut Butter
Non fatty meats

Be sure that you keep your intake of fluid up while suffering from morning sickness, especially if you are vomiting throughout the day. This will also help prevent dehydration, which is a lot more serious than what many people think.

For ongoing morning sickness there is a solution which you may wish to make use of. Preggie pops are lollie pops which come in a variety of different flavors and they will help relieve nausea.
