Am I Seeing The Right Week Of My Pregnancy?

Correct Week Of Your Pregnancy

It is not uncommon for us to receive questions from members asking if they are seeing the correct week of their pregnancy. There are two parts to this, and we will address each separately.

Why Does It Say Im 10 weeks When I Am Actually 9 weeks?

This is possibly one of the most common questions we have, and the explanation for this is very simple. If you are 9 weeks and 2 days pregnant, then you are actually in the 10th week of your pregnancy. After all, you have completed 9 weeks already + 2 days, and this is why you are in the 10th week of your pregnancy. It is not to be confused with you have completed 10 weeks.

Why Is the Baby Development Two Weeks Behind The Pregnancy Week?

As you will see your babies development is 2 weeks behind the week of your pregnancy, and this is often confusing. The reason for this is because of how the pregnancy week is calculated. Simply put, the time between when your menstrual cycle starts until your conception date is counted as the first few weeks of your pregnancy.

In Most Cases, this is 14 days, as this is the average, and so almost every single web site or pregnancy book will use this same method. Of course, if you know what your Luteal Phase Length - the time between when you start your menstrual cycle and when you ovulate - then you will be able to accurately calculate exactly how hold your baby is in it's development by using our pregnancy calculator.

How Is Your Due Date Calculated?

You add 280 days to the first day of your last menstrual period, or LMP

It is really quite simple. The 280-day cycle works on the typical 266-day gestation period for humans. We get 280 days because we add 14 days, which is the average time span for when you would have ovulated.

Obviously this is just an average, but with our calculator the 14 days can be changed for what your actual Luteal Phase, or to what your actual ovulation period actually is, and this makes it extremely useful, as the more you know about your monthly cycle, the more accurate your calculations will be.
